I cut my teeth on rock and roll music, especially the blues-oriented music of the British Invasion, playing in high school bands covering songs by artists like the Rolling Stones and Yardbirds. My interest in this music led me to “follow the thread” through Chicago blues, country blues, traditional country artists like Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers, traditional folk artists, and younger folk musicians like Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. Since long before it was known as “roots music” or “Americana,” I’ve been playing and singing the music influenced by those styles. Performing on acoustic guitar and harmonica, my set list typically borrows from artists and songwriters such as Utah Phillips, Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons, Lucinda Williams, and Iris De Ment, among others.
